If My Shawl Could Sing tells its story through the eyes of a shawl. It was the first song written after I told my
friend Vicky that she needed music for her shawl ministry. Please pray for the fellow knitters who work their
blessings into the shawls.
If my Shawl Could Sing,
It would sing with the joy of a warm summer morn.
It would tell of the valley from which it was born
And the smell of the stream by which it was refreshed,
The stars overhead as it laid down to rest.
If My Shawl Could Sing
If My Shawl could weep,
It would shudder in fear as it waits to be shorn
It would moan and lament in its feeling alone.
It would recount the Shepherd who whispers in ears
Of his calming touch and of his words “do not fear”
If my Shawl Could Sing
It would laugh with the voices of women who wed
Their joy with the wool into beautiful thread
My shawl would remember the fruit, wine and bread,
And celebrate life as a mountainous spread.
If My Shawl Could Sing
And when it weeps,
It grieves for the stories, the tears and the cost
It mourns over children and memories lost
Yet ponders the miracles told from the heart
Of Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, thou art
If My Shawl Could Sing
It would speak of the hours when the candle burned bright
Of the rocking, the needles, the click in the night
It would smile and remember the prayers that were said,
the prayers that are woven throughout every thread.
